The planet is quickly confronting us with limits to the exploitative, dominator system of the past 5000 years. David Korten, author of When Corporations Rule the World, and more recently The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community, implores us to replace dominator-control stories with new stories — affirming life values of cooperation, community and interdependence. I’m not sure that David is actually the publisher of Yes! magazine, but he’s on the board of directors, and his wife Fran is their development director (if I recall the roles). Yes! is a fabulous magazine; we’ve subscribed for several decades. We taped a Conversation with editor Sarah Van Gelder, called “Yes! Building a Just, Sustainable, and Compassionate World.” (#42)
You’re very intuitive. When we came up with the idea of Peak Moment TV in summer 2005, my first thought was that this was Yes! magazine in the video medium. Many of their themes are ours (we haven’t gotten into the social justice aspect yet…). I’d love to partner with them in some way.
Glad you’re getting the newsletter. I can send you a copy of their Going Local magazine from winter 2006/7 — we have extras.
I noticed David Korten is now publishing a magazine called YES! I have just gotten my first internet newsletter (for free) and I am impressed. The magazine really covers many inspirational “build your community” strategies and seems like a magazine version of Peakmoment.tv. I am trying to justify subscribing to the magazine–one has to consider the carbon expense of sending a magazine all the way to Japan. The newsletter is good, but the magazine looks like it is worthwile.
