Time’s Up! An Uncivilized Solution (175)

pm175_589What kind of life do you want, and what are you willing to do to get it? Keith Farnish, author of Time’s Up! An Uncivilized Solution to a Global Crisis, sees industrial civilization as the most destructive way of living yet devised by humans. And it’s over: environmental degradation and depletion tell us it can’t continue. The system has myriad ways to make us believe we can’t live without it. But Keith believes we can – there are countless ways to move forward into contented, happy, and full lives. We can “disengage” and reconnect with the natural world, ourselves, and others. Hi Janaia,

This interview was great! How do you find such excellent people? Peak Moment Television continues to keep us all in touch with the most progressive of the progressives. Many, many kind thanks for enlightening us all.

    Hi Janaia,
Another brilliant interview! Well done. Keith puts it such a way that makes it plain and simple to disconnect from the corporation enforced consumerism lifestile in so many subtle ways. I found myself nodding and saying “yes, yes!” as the interview went on.
By adopting a Permaculture like lifestyle, we can give the digit to the corportations and our privatisation-mad governments. I am lucky enough to be living in an outer suburban area where I can readily grow food, get wood for the fire, harvest my own water and interact with other like-minded people.
Some things many could do are:
Get a large enough water tank to be able to zero the usage of water from our privatised water suppliers.
If the electricticity suppliers are giving rebates and a feed in tariff mandated by government, take advantage of it! That way you are getting something back. 🙂
Disconnect from whatever utility you can.
    Avoid the shopping morgues (malls).
    Avoid the stupid (super) stores.
    Buy local.
    Join a food co-op.
Grow as much of your own food as you can.
    Keep chickens.
    Re-use as much as possible.
Always buy for the long term and when buying corporation made products, get whatever you need second-hand rather than brand new.
I really like the way Keith puts it. We can all rebel in ways that are not dangerous to our health.
    Great stuff.

    Regards,
    Ed.
